My Story
There was a time when I believed my life was over. In October 2009, my wife, Julie, went missing. Two days later, she was found deceased. Overnight, I became a 29-year-old widower raising three children who were just one, two, and five years old. I had no roadmap for the grief, the questions, or the uncertainty that suddenly became my new reality.Just as I began learning how to move forward, another tragedy struck. A head-on collision left me with multiple broken bones, internal injuries, and months of recovery. There were moments when simply standing again seemed impossible, but by God's grace I eventually walked again, returned to teaching, and even completed an 11-mile Tough Mudder less than a year later. That experience taught me that resilience is built one step at a time.Years later, our family faced another unimaginable season when my mother and brother were both placed on hospice the same day in different states. Within weeks, we said goodbye to both of them. Once again, life reminded me that hardship rarely arrives when we expect it, and it often comes in ways we could never prepare for.Through every chapter of my life, one truth has remained constant: God has never abandoned me. There have been days filled with questions, grief, and emotions I couldn't explain, but I have learned that God's faithfulness is not determined by my circumstances. Even when I couldn't see what He was doing, He never stopped working.I don't write because I've figured life out. I write because I've lived through heartbreak, loss, trauma, unanswered prayers, and broken dreams. My hope is that by honestly sharing my story and pointing people to biblical truth, others will discover that even when life doesn't make sense, God is still faithful and hope is never out of reach.Today, I have the privilege of serving as a math teacher, coach, speaker, and author. Every book I write, every message I share, and every opportunity I have to speak is driven by one purpose: to encourage people who are walking through life's hardest seasons and remind them that their story isn't over. If you're facing one of those seasons today, I pray you'll find the same hope that carried me through mine.
